Restoring a ranch home Bar & dining chair set

Yee Haw! The Total Leather Care team saddled up once more and brought an antique dining chair and barstool set back to life in our Houston Workshop.

The final product in our clients ranch home retreat.

Our team recently completed a re-upholstery/restoration project of an antique dining chair and barstool set. The goal of the project was to re-upholster the old worn material with new top grain leather panels and yet still preserve the patinaed look of a well loved ranch dining chair and barstool.

Our specialists are well versed in creating color schemes on leather that are congruent with the age of the original material and also balance nicely with the wooden furniture frames. The leather our team used for this project was “chrome tanned crust.” Crust leather is wide opened undyed leather that provides our technicians an excellent canvas for creating artwork. The leather hides were mounted onto one of our large easel’s and the colors were sprayed on in different patterns. We then sprayed on a clear top coat to lock in the color.

Once the color process was completed the hides were cut to appropriate size, and new webbing and foam support was installed on the dining chair frames to provide a more comfortable sitting experience. Lastly Jon, our senior technician, methodically mounted each one of the decorative antique brass-tacks to finish off the chairs

We performed the same process to match a set of barstools to give the project an overall cohesive look and feel. The barstools also got the additional touch of custom stitching performed by hand by our Lead Product Designer, Rodolfo.
