One of our greatest joys at Total Leather Care is the moment when we get to bring a completed project to a client and see it installed in its forever home.
Here we have a set of six, midcentury dining chairs that came to us with leather that was significantly worn and damaged. The client intended for the chairs to receive light use during occasional formal dining, so we suggested replacing the seats and backrests with period-correct leather in both finish and color. A patina was added to the final finish of the chairs in order to lend an age appropriate feel. The wood on each chair was cleaned and waxed with minor color corrections applied where necessary to restore the timeless charm of the original design.
With the full set of chairs returned to their former luster, they are ready for many years of loving use.

An unfortunate accident involving candle wax.

Trust us when we say that we have literally seen it all. From damage caused by a naughty pet or a curious child to the occasional adult whoopsie - we are well seasoned in rectifying seemingly permanent damage to leather pieces. Most leather that we see on a daily basis can in fact be repaired using the tools in our Houston workshop and the time-honed skills of our specialists.
Here we have a custom built, aniline dyed leather banquette which had been subject to an unfortunate incident involving hot candle wax. Damage of this sort can be quite difficult to repair due to the hot liquid which can burn the leather as well as the oil content in the wax which can penetrate the surface finish and stain the underlying leather. However, our team was up to the challenge.
First, the hardened candle wax was gently removed by hand across the affected portions of the banquette. Because the oils from the wax had seeped into the leather and caused staining, the oil had to be carefully extracted using specialty equipment in our workshop. The surface was then checked to ensure complete removal of the oils in order to guarantee good adhesion of the ensuing color restoration and top coat finish that our specialists applied.
Overall the piece was able to be fully repaired and returned to its very relieved owner.
