Whoops! When Accidents Happen

Y’all, we have seen literally everything over here in our Houston workshop - from pets to children to movers, we know life happens and are ready to help. So before you disown your spouse for spilling red wine all over your favorite chair, give us a call. Accidental leather damage is probably more common than you think, and most of the damage that we encounter on a daily basis can be repaired by our craftsmen here in the shop.

One of our leather repair experts inspects damage on a sofa

Aurelio, our Head Technical Specialist, inspects the damage to a leather banquette resulting from an accident involving candle wax.

Our team recently completed a repair project for a custom aniline-dyed leather banquette that was designed specifically to fit into a bar-lounge area in our client’s home. Unfortunately, a mishap involving hot candle wax resulted in substantial damage to the leather panels on both the seating area and the backrest of the piece. The hot wax melted through the protective coatings on the leather which allowed oils to seep into the leather itself, causing staining.

Our specialists have been working together for decades, and we truly do function as a tight-knit team. This project was a great example of that teamwork, as nearly every member of the shop had a hand in bringing this piece back to its rightful condition. In fact, the original leather was able to be repaired entirely without the need to replace the damaged sections with new leather panels. This is a testament to the unique skills of our craftsmen who are experts at removing oils and other foreign materials from damaged leather. Though the banquette was relatively new and replacing the panels would not have been problematic, the ability to save damaged leather becomes incredibly important in our restoration work when we strive to keep as much of the original condition as possible.

Ultimately, our team was able to return this banquette to its previous condition and deliver it to its very relieved owners in tip-top shape. As much as we hate to see you in distress, we also enjoy a good challenge!
